The brainchild of Lourdes de Guardiola, Milou’s curated collection is often described as chic, timeless, with an equestrian twist. Daughter of one of Wellington’s pioneer developers, horses became Lourdes’s life at the age of six, ultimately giving way to a successful 15 year career in the show jumping business.

“My husband Michael Morrissey and I have travelled the globe winning championships in the hunters, jumpers and equitation. Michael is a proven international show jumper, having represented team USA on multiple occasions overseas in Europe.  I turned to coaching some of the best junior riders at some of the most elite shows around the world.  A year ago I decided to venture into another passion of mine, fashion.  So I launched MilouPalmBeach.com,  an on-line clothing boutique,” says de Guardiola. The equestrian influence is apparent in the cool, effortless, hip but chic Milou collection.

Lourdes’s success and loyal following prompted her to launch a pop-up this past season at Palm Beach’s International Polo club. “I only see great things for this business, with local and international stores on the horizon.”

Private trunk shows continue during the summer with the next one scheduled during a special Happy Hour co-hosted by Ryan Beckett on June 27th at Meat Market Palm Beach!

Meat Market  will be offering complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Guests are encouraged to stay for dinner as 10% of proceeds will go towards Danny and Ron’s Rescue in Wellington.

Swimming Pool Series débuts at Bridgehampton Museum July 5-8

Contessa Gallery welcomes Maria Svarbova to their roster of critically acclaimed artists! The 2018 Hasselblad Master of the Art Category, Maria’s distinctive style has gained her prestigious recognition in the art world. Her photography departs from traditional portraiture and focuses on experimentation with space, color, and atmosphere.

Maria was born in 1988 and currently lives in Slovakia, where she was named one of Forbes 30 under 30. Taking an interest in Socialist era architecture and public spaces, Maria transforms each scene with a modern freshness that highlights the depth and range of her creative palette. The human body throughout her oeuvre is more or less a peripheral afterthought, often portrayed as aloof and demure rather than substantive. Carefully composed figures create thematic, dream-like scenes with ordinary objects. Her images hold a silent tension that think at emergent possibilities under the lilt of clean and smooth surfaces. Maria’s unique work continues to garner international acclaim and is setting new precedents in contemporary photography.

Maria’s largest series to date, In the Swimming Pool, is inspired by her fascination with the geometric beauty of public swimming pools in Slovakia. Her compositions bring a futuristic quality to old, retro spaces. The colours and smooth tones of these photographs create a dream-like atmosphere. The stillness and artificial detachment of the figures relate to the cool, sterile setting and offer the viewer a uniquely pleasurable visual experience.

Contessa Gallery is excited to show photographs from Maria’s In the Swimming Pool Series and will be debuting them at Market Art + Design July 5th – 8th.  Click here to Preview Photographs

Katja Bentzen returns to Palm Beach, this time on the Avenue!

During her first visit to Palm Beach in February, Katja Bentzen  spent most of her time in Wellington among the equestrian community.  Katja was immediately snapped up by Lourdes de Guardiola to participate at Milou’s pop up at International Polo Club.  Her success at IPC kept her occupied with private appointments among the horsey set.  She left too many of us on this side of the tracks wanting for more…

So, now that the St Barths Bucket Regatta is over, Katja answered my pleas to return and agreed with a 3 day trunk show at Eye of the Needle in Palm Beach. Pearl aficionados will also have the opportunity to meet Katja, select their favorite pearls and request a customized design tailored specifically for them.  Katja will be at Eye of the Needle, 313 Worth Avenue Thursday April 4- Saturday April 7th

A St. Barth’s Staple

katja bentzenSt. Barth’s regulars who are ‘in the know’ have three things they absolutely must do during their visit to the fashionable destination:  Pick up food to go at Mayas for a picnic in Colombier or Saline; enjoy lunch and several bottles of rosé at La Plage and a visit to the Cheval Blanc Isle de France Hotel to purchase one of Katja’s latest creations.  Coming home from St. Barth’s without a new signature leather and pearl piece is absolutely out of the question for many of us!

Katja has been the exclusive supplier of exquisite pearl, mother of pearl and vermeil creations to the Cheval Blanc Isle de France (formerly Hotel Isle de France) for the last 15 years.  Katja uses only the best pearls from Tahiti and the South Seas with AAA lustre and shine, which she personally selects during her regular trips to the islands.  Katja imports the finest quality supple leather from Australia which she hand prepares for each piece she creates.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I visited Katja at her studio in St. Barth’s— a pearl lover’s paradise!  My boyfriend spent close to two hours selecting the perfect shades of grey resulting in my favorite piece ever: the perfect Tahitian pearl and leather necklace.

About Katja Bentzen

Katja was born in Sweden and after moving to several countries with her family, she ended up in the Canary Islands, where her desire to go sailing and traveling was born. She was originally trained in London to restore antique kilims tapestry and it was here that her interest for jewelry and fashion blossomed. Katja spent her winters between the islands of St Barth’s and Antigua and summers in Newport RI, where she worked for the Restoration Society bringing rugs and tapestries back to life for the mansions on Ocean Drive. She used the knotting techniques for restoring these tapestries to create her pearl jewelry.Whilst sailing around the oceans Katja discovered the pearls from Tahiti and the South Seas and began using them to create the pearl jewelry that she is so renowned for today.  visit website

Ali MacGraw transcends borders and empowers women

All my life I’ve had respect for this fabulous down to earth and generous woman. So when I received  an invitation from Lars Bolander, Nadine Kalachnikoff and Todd Hase to meet her and learn about Ibu movement, I was thrilled!  After further research, I learned about her instrumental role in this fabulous organization and my admiration grew to a whole new level.  I look forward to meeting Ms. MacGraw next Thursday, adding fabulous unique and affordable pieces to my wardrobe and more importantly, I look forward to supporting such an important and often too forgotten cause: empowering women most in need.  All proceeds from sales will benefit Ibu Movement.

Ibu Movement

In the Malay language of Indonesia, Ibu means a woman of respect.  The Ibu movement celebrates the imagination and skill of women from around the world, while empowering them and putting money back in to their hands. As an Ambassador designer, Ali Macgraw collaborates with 71 artisan groups in 38 countries, bringing elegant, bold, and powerful handmade luxury for the rest of the world to enjoy.

“When a woman brings money into the household,” says MacGraw. “Suddenly she can’t be treated quite the same way as before.”

The Artisans

Artisans spanning the globe from Guatemala, to Nepal to create, spin, dye and weave their stories in cloth. They create more than beauty as they craft their own independence, educate their children, lead communities and change futures. Just one of these 71 groups crafts and designs in-house about 70% of Ibu’s products, offering unique items found nowhere else. The artisans buy the remaining 30% wholesale, and at a more than fair trade price. This dynamic creates livelihood, collegiality, and bonds of friendship between Ibu allies and artisans.

Ali MacGraw Ibu Movement Collection

Ali’s chic sense of style takes traditional craft from 23 countries around the world, including Ali’s native New Mexico, Uzbekistan, Brazil, to Pakistan to the South Sudan, to a whole other level. “My whole life I have been crazy about wearing and collecting textiles from the four corners of the earth.

In many cases, these things have been passed down for generations. Or at least, the craft has been taught by generations.

So these women live in a cultural continuum that the West doesn’t often see. Our society changes everything immediately, outsourcing things, making things quickly and cheaply. It’s so unappealing in comparison to something made by hand, something that joins you to a group of women from around the globe,” says MacGraw during an interview for interior monologue.

Nadine Kalachnikoff, Lars Bolander & Todd Hase will host Ali MacGraw and her collection at 5013 S. Dixie Highway, WPB Thursday March 29th, 10-5 PM.  Ali MacGraw will be speaking at 3pm (All proceeds from sales will go to Ibu movement).

View video below to fully appreciate Ibu movement.  To view runway show of ali’s collection, fast forward half-way!

Gracida Wines and Meat Market host kick off for 2nd Annual Equine Salute Invitational

Carlos Gracida Jr. and Mariano Gracida, the two sons of Polo legend Carlos Gracida, along with their business partner and founder of the Arion Group, Nick Valenta are ready to launch the much anticipated Gracida Wines in Palm Beach.  The celebratory event will take place at Meat Market Palm Beach on February 8th, from 6-8 pm. and will serve as the Palm Beach kick-off for the upcoming 2nd Annual Equine Salute Invitational, scheduled Feb. 23.   ‘Carlitos’  ‘Nano’ and Nick will also take this opportunity to introduce the Gracida Legacy Foundation, whose mission is to enrich the lives of community youth through a love of horsemanship and role models dedicated to instilling leadership skills, discipline, and a champion mentality.

Carlos Gracida Legacy grows to 4th Generation

A third generation of polo player, Carlos Gracida Sr. launched The Gracida Polo brand in 2011. The late legendary player and reportedly Queen Elizabeth’s favorite player, was ranked 10 goals internationally for 15 consecutive years.  After his tragic accident in 2014,  the responsibility fell on Carlitos and Nano who along with their buddy turned business partner, Nick Valenta, changed the name to Gracida Legacy and have carried the torch since.

Gracida Wines added to Meat Market Wine List

After three years of research and multiple wine tastings across the globe, the Gracida boys went back to their Spanish roots and chose La Mancha wine region to produce their three wines- a sparkling light rose, a  chardonnay and a Tempranillo Gran Reserva.  Launched in 2017, and familiar to the equine Wellington community, the wines will now be available at Meat Market Palm Beach

“It’s difficult to find wines of this quality without a big price tag. The Gracida wines are affordable, and well-made quality wines for everyday drinking, representative of the Spanish wine culture.  They are wines you can suggest to guests looking for a great bottle but not wanting to leave their life savings on the table. I’m excited to add these wines to our wine list,” says Jonathan Negrin, Wine Sommelier of Meat Market,  “Get ready to enjoy good wine, this is only the beginning for these boys, with their heart, and passion it will only get better and better!

I thought creating Gracida wines would be perfect for the Gracida lifestyle brand.  It not only honors the four generations of horsemen that the name represents, but also, at our price point, everyone can enjoy it and experience the polo lifestyle with each sip,”says Nick Valenta.

Le Rosey- a household name in Palm Beach

As a Rosey alumnus (class of ’76), parent of two alumni and Florida Rep, I am once again thrilled to welcome Nathalie Eynard, Associate Director of Admissions of Le Rosey back to Palm Beach!  During her last visit three years ago, my dear friend and Rosey parent, Marzia Precoda opened her beautiful home to host an informative tea for Academy of the Palm Beach’s parents and children.  The result? Eight students signed up on the spot for various summer programs, four of which chose Le Rosey to continue their academic studies.  With a growing number of students from Palm Beach currently enrolled in either its academic or summer programs, Institut Le Rosey has clearly become a household name in Palm Beach!

Adriana Burger is a mother of four with her two youngest at Palm Beach Day Academy; eldest daughter graduated from Le Rosey last year and is currently at McGill University, and eldest son is a senior at Le Rosey this year. “Le Rosey gives its students the opportunity of looking at the world with changed eyes, opening their mind to the challenges of multicultural societies, maintaining strong values and ethics as the core of their lives, present and future since once a Roséen, always a Roséen,” says Adriana Burger,

Summer Camps: More than an Adventure in the Alps

Le Rosey offers 5 very different camp programs located on two different campuses:  the ‘Chateau’ campus on the shores of Lake Geneva and the Alpine campus located in Gstaad, in the middle of the Swiss Alps.  Hiking in the Swiss Alps, water-skiing on Lake Geneva, horse-riding through the forest, discovery trips and excursions are just some of the daily activities offered to campers. Students may also opt to develop artistic abilities, hone their musical or theatrical skills in the state of the art Paul & Henri Carnal Hall; learn a new language or focus on improving SAT scores.

Most importantly, Le Rosey Camps offer the opportunity to experience a glimpse of the Rosey spirit, become more independent, forge lifelong friendships and of course, have fun in a short couple of weeks. A unique experience in true Rosey style!

Scheduling a time with Nathalie Eynard
