Back by popular demand, this coming Sunday, May 20th  will signal the return of Meat Market’s wildly popular Signature Steak Sunday. Every Sunday this summer, you can enjoy a selection of Executive Chef/Co-Owner Sean Brasel’s Signature Steaks at half price. Options include 16 ounce Chicago Prime New York (full or half); 12 ounce filet mignon (full or half); 16 ounce Prime Ribeye; the Meat Market steak – 16 ounce Prime Picanha with Habanero Chimichurri (full or half); or the Creative Steak of the Day.

My favorite is the prime rib-eye topped with either seared foie-gras or roasted prime bone marrow….. but of course you can choose from other succulent additions such as a 6 ounce lobster tail; Oscar-style with blue crab and béarnaise; and black truffle butter. Signature Steak Sunday will be offered to guests in the dining room, as well as those sitting at the bar and lounge.  Not to be combined with any other offers and not available for to-go orders.

Meat Market, located at 191 Bradley Place in Palm Beach, serves dinner nightly. For reservations, please call (561) 354-9800. For more information, visit www.meatmarket.net.

On April 24, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society hosted a gathering at the Contessa Gallery on 247 Worth Avenue. The occasion for the gathering, which brought awareness to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, was a celebration of the “mid-way” point of the 2018 Man & Woman of the Year award. The mid way point of the Man & Woman of the Year celebration followed a fashion-styling session for the campaign candidates. The candidates were treated to couture styling courtesy of Brioni and Emilio Pucci. With professional and tasteful styling by Brioni and Emilio Pucci, the candidates were ready for their spotlight in front of the camera. Final touches to hair and makeup were provided by the prestigious Woody Michleb Beauty Salon.  Finally, to add the finishing touch, Salon Owner, Amy Michleb, herself, added her special high fashion expertise to bring out the best of the candidates in front of the camera. The Salon recently participated in the styling of professional runway models for the new Dolce&Gabbana Design District boutique in Miami.

2018 Man & Woman of the Year

The Mid-Way Celebration recognized the progress being made in this year’s Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ten-week campaign.  Twenty candidates were selected for their community service and dedication to finding a cure. The candidates who raise the most money will win the local title and go on to compete for national honors. Last year, the Man & Woman of the Year campaign raised almost $1.3 million for blood cancer research, patient services, education, and advocacy. This year’s fundraising includes a big push on Social Media by the individual candidates which is why the professionally styled photos are an important element.

Ali MacGraw transcends borders and empowers women

All my life I’ve had respect for this fabulous down to earth and generous woman. So when I received  an invitation from Lars Bolander, Nadine Kalachnikoff and Todd Hase to meet her and learn about Ibu movement, I was thrilled!  After further research, I learned about her instrumental role in this fabulous organization and my admiration grew to a whole new level.  I look forward to meeting Ms. MacGraw next Thursday, adding fabulous unique and affordable pieces to my wardrobe and more importantly, I look forward to supporting such an important and often too forgotten cause: empowering women most in need.  All proceeds from sales will benefit Ibu Movement.

Ibu Movement

In the Malay language of Indonesia, Ibu means a woman of respect.  The Ibu movement celebrates the imagination and skill of women from around the world, while empowering them and putting money back in to their hands. As an Ambassador designer, Ali Macgraw collaborates with 71 artisan groups in 38 countries, bringing elegant, bold, and powerful handmade luxury for the rest of the world to enjoy.

“When a woman brings money into the household,” says MacGraw. “Suddenly she can’t be treated quite the same way as before.”

The Artisans

Artisans spanning the globe from Guatemala, to Nepal to create, spin, dye and weave their stories in cloth. They create more than beauty as they craft their own independence, educate their children, lead communities and change futures. Just one of these 71 groups crafts and designs in-house about 70% of Ibu’s products, offering unique items found nowhere else. The artisans buy the remaining 30% wholesale, and at a more than fair trade price. This dynamic creates livelihood, collegiality, and bonds of friendship between Ibu allies and artisans.

Ali MacGraw Ibu Movement Collection

Ali’s chic sense of style takes traditional craft from 23 countries around the world, including Ali’s native New Mexico, Uzbekistan, Brazil, to Pakistan to the South Sudan, to a whole other level. “My whole life I have been crazy about wearing and collecting textiles from the four corners of the earth.

In many cases, these things have been passed down for generations. Or at least, the craft has been taught by generations.

So these women live in a cultural continuum that the West doesn’t often see. Our society changes everything immediately, outsourcing things, making things quickly and cheaply. It’s so unappealing in comparison to something made by hand, something that joins you to a group of women from around the globe,” says MacGraw during an interview for interior monologue.

Nadine Kalachnikoff, Lars Bolander & Todd Hase will host Ali MacGraw and her collection at 5013 S. Dixie Highway, WPB Thursday March 29th, 10-5 PM.  Ali MacGraw will be speaking at 3pm (All proceeds from sales will go to Ibu movement).

View video below to fully appreciate Ibu movement.  To view runway show of ali’s collection, fast forward half-way!

Ballet Florida presents ‘Reawakening’ on March 24th

For those who revered Ballet Florida as a vibrant player in the local arts scene since it was founded by Marie Hale in 1985 and mourned its closing in 2009 after 23 seasons of well received performances in West Palm Beach as well as New York and Europe – there is great news!  Ballet Florida is back!

Lauren Carey, 28, of West Palm Beach, an alumnus of both Ballet Florida and Dreyfoos School of the Arts, is the president and artistic director of the newly resurrected local dance company.  Joining her in the effort is Guy Palmer as creative director and her sister Lyndsey Carey, as director of outreach.

Ballet Florida’s mission is to create new work while performing a selection of timeless classics. By housing collaborative projects between dancers, choreographers, visual artists, musicians, composers, multi-media artists, designers and other art forms, we develop and showcase a versatile dance medium.

Dance as an art form is changing and evolving,” Carey continued.  “It is unrealistic to think that a company will survive merely by producing performances audiences have seen time and time again in the same venues.  Ballet Florida will complement the classics with new offerings designed to stretch the artistic boundaries of our company.”

Programs by Ballet Florida include full-length evenings performed in traditional theaters, contrasted by intimate non-traditional environments. “We hope to reach all generations and cultures through our dancing while opening the minds of those who have not yet had the opportunity to experience this spectacular art form,” Carey said.

The Ballet Florida company will perform a mixed program “Reawakening” on March 24 at 8 p.m. at The Kravis Center’s Persson Hall.   The program will feature home grown artists such as Kyra Jean Green, now of Montreal Canada, Guy Palmer a former Ballet Florida scholarship student under the direction of Marie Hale and now Ballet Florida’s Creative Director, Artistic Director Lauren Carey, and former Ballet Florida company member (under the direction of Marie Hale) Jerry Opdenaker, among other guest artists. Carey’s new work “Vessel” features a collaboration with local visual artist Charles Bane who has created an original creative set for the piece.  All of the dancers, choreographers and collaborating artists in this upcoming performance have a connection to South Florida.

Tickets are available online at www.kravis.org

Gracida Wines and Meat Market host kick off for 2nd Annual Equine Salute Invitational

Carlos Gracida Jr. and Mariano Gracida, the two sons of Polo legend Carlos Gracida, along with their business partner and founder of the Arion Group, Nick Valenta are ready to launch the much anticipated Gracida Wines in Palm Beach.  The celebratory event will take place at Meat Market Palm Beach on February 8th, from 6-8 pm. and will serve as the Palm Beach kick-off for the upcoming 2nd Annual Equine Salute Invitational, scheduled Feb. 23.   ‘Carlitos’  ‘Nano’ and Nick will also take this opportunity to introduce the Gracida Legacy Foundation, whose mission is to enrich the lives of community youth through a love of horsemanship and role models dedicated to instilling leadership skills, discipline, and a champion mentality.

Carlos Gracida Legacy grows to 4th Generation

A third generation of polo player, Carlos Gracida Sr. launched The Gracida Polo brand in 2011. The late legendary player and reportedly Queen Elizabeth’s favorite player, was ranked 10 goals internationally for 15 consecutive years.  After his tragic accident in 2014,  the responsibility fell on Carlitos and Nano who along with their buddy turned business partner, Nick Valenta, changed the name to Gracida Legacy and have carried the torch since.

Gracida Wines added to Meat Market Wine List

After three years of research and multiple wine tastings across the globe, the Gracida boys went back to their Spanish roots and chose La Mancha wine region to produce their three wines- a sparkling light rose, a  chardonnay and a Tempranillo Gran Reserva.  Launched in 2017, and familiar to the equine Wellington community, the wines will now be available at Meat Market Palm Beach

“It’s difficult to find wines of this quality without a big price tag. The Gracida wines are affordable, and well-made quality wines for everyday drinking, representative of the Spanish wine culture.  They are wines you can suggest to guests looking for a great bottle but not wanting to leave their life savings on the table. I’m excited to add these wines to our wine list,” says Jonathan Negrin, Wine Sommelier of Meat Market,  “Get ready to enjoy good wine, this is only the beginning for these boys, with their heart, and passion it will only get better and better!

I thought creating Gracida wines would be perfect for the Gracida lifestyle brand.  It not only honors the four generations of horsemen that the name represents, but also, at our price point, everyone can enjoy it and experience the polo lifestyle with each sip,”says Nick Valenta.
