I buy the shoe because I love the way it looks… and then, I suffer...  Who says shoe lovers are practical? We may not be able to wear these particular shoes, but we do get to fantasize. Who better than the wife of one of our favorite designers to come up with these whimsical designs are masterpieces to inspire our fantasies?

Jane Weitzman, noted philanthropist, will be one of the highlights of the 13th Annual Palm Beach Fine Craft Show February 26th  through February 28th, 2016. Jane, wife of famed shoe designer, Stuart Weitzman, will be a special guest at what is considered to be the #1 Fine Craft Show in the country, according to Art Fair Source book, a leading resource in the industry.

Author of Art and Sole, a visual representation of the many renowned artisans commissioned to realize her whimsical inspirations, Jane will be one of several highlights at the upcoming 2013 Palm Beach Fine Craft Show. 

So we can’t wear them, but how fun is it to fantasize!

Jane will be supporting three local Palm Beach charities during her presence in Palm Beach.  Glades Academy Foundation, Center for Creative Education, and talk about the perfect tie in Shuzz Foundation!  We’ll keep you posted!

They’re Back! Just wait till you see what they brought with them…

Just when we thought we had lost them to some exotic destination, Nadine Kalachnikoff and Lars Bolander unexpectedly surprises us with yet another pioneering endeavor! And lucky for us, it’s happening in our backyard! We shouldn’t be surprised, as this dynamic creative duo– icons of design, style and fabulous taste— have always been ahead of the eight ball… World travelers in search of the unique and beautiful, Lars and Nadine have created a bazaar-style shopping experience where we may all share in the experience of their world travels…

I had to pop in to check it out. Of course it’s off the beaten path, but then again aren’t all treasures? Among their latest acquisitions from their summer travels to Greece, London and Sweden:  Hand-painted plates from Greece which Nadine naturally needed to alter so they are ‘made to order’. When asked if I could see the website, she was appalled!

“Website? He’s an aging artisan from Greece!” So I guess we have to wait until the doors open to see what they have in store.  Next Stop? India.

Nadine and Lars will be hosting ‘visiting’ artists and designers this season in their ‘out of the box’ warehouse-style studio located at 1696 Old Okeechobee.  Stay tuned for calendar of upcoming exhibits and news!

Chisholm Gallery – A Treasure Trove for True Collectors

 

While driving through Wellington last week, I popped by to visit Jeanne Chisholm, an old friend and owner of the Chisholm Gallery, known as a leading international dealer of polo and sporting art for over 30 years.  I was a accompanied by an avid sailor who also happens to be a serious art collector.  He was immediately drawn to a spectacular oil on canvas by Isabella Monari called “Regata blu 1” pictured here.  I was drawn to Monari’s stunning fencing scenes! That was just a sampling  of so many fabulous pieces on display at the gallery.  Jeanne’s impressive collection currently on view include watercolors by Hungarian artist Elmyr de Hory (think F For Fake by Orson Welles,)  polo paintings of legendary Pete Bostwick and Tommy Hitchcock by Lisa Bostwick, and fine art limited edition black & white photographs by Francesco Scavullo: Think Sting, Jagger, Bacall, Sophia, Pavarotti, Lisa, Glenn etc… Scavullo created the COSMO GIRL His photographs graced the covers of Vogue, Rolling Stone, Life, Time, Newsweek, Town and Country, Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle, Glamour, Harper’s and Queen, L’Officiel and Max.

A taste of Spain now at Benny’s on the Beach

I consider myself a sophisticated diner, who thrives on the whole experience— the ambiance, the quality of food, the service… so I was thrilled when I followed Chef Jeremy Hanlon to Benny’s on the Beach.

For weeks I’ve enjoyed brunches which led to lunches as we began with their in-house mixologist’s signature Bloody Marys and/or Bloody Marias (tequila based ) and eventually led to chilled bottles of Côtes de Provence rosé wine presented at our table. I wont share the brunch and lunch menu at this time, as most of you know about it… What you probably haven’t heard is Chef Jeremy is sharing his international experiences and inspirations at Benny’s with signature Paella Dinners on Saturday and Sunday.  Before the paella, you can choose from a (pintxos) menu, just as you would in Spain…except, unlike Spain, you can request preferences and omissions for your paella. 

The best of three worlds:  The setting which can’t be beat, the menu and the chef tailoring to your needs.. now that’s what I call a  ‘pieds dans l’eau’ ‘TRUE EXPERIENCE’.

Hublot POLO CUB Gstaad and MENUHIN Festival

Famous for its winter season, Gstaad has been a destination for the who’s who– celebrities, Royals and jet-setters from across the globe since the early 1900’s — some who enjoy the skiing and but most who relish the après-ski scene-   So its only natural that Gstaad would host the Hublot Polo Cup Gstaad, as it is the ‘Sport of Kings’.

Going to Florence soon?

If you’re planning a trip to Italy, a stop in Florence, if only to witness the restoration of the Baptistery, is a must.  The Pucci couture sheath, wrapped by the venerable House of Pucci a year ago,  remains a delight for tourists and Florentines alike.

The Pucci family is one of the city’s founding families and its Renaissance-era Palazzo is around the corner from the Baptistery.  Laudomia Pucci has kept her father’s passion alive, spearheading efforts to mark the 60th anniversary of Florence’s Center for Italian Fashion with her father’s original 1957 designs. Pucci used over 20,000 scarves to drape the iconic Baptistery of San Giovanni in Florence during its restoration. “Quite amazing to think the foulard Emilio designed in 1957 would be draping the Baptistery over 50 years later!.” A limited edition of the ‘Battistero’ scarf is available at Emilio Pucci’s stores in Florence, Rome and Milan as well as on emiliopucci.com, with proceeds benefiting this iconic monument’s continued refurbishment, scheduled to be completed September 2015.

Black River Caviar Summer Highlights

The third week in June in Aspen  is a destination for  ‘sophisticated foodies’!  This year Black River Caviar participated in both the Aspen food and Wine and the Cochon 555 Heritage Fire.  A Russian Oscietra was flown in from Uruguay.   “We partnered with Krug Champagne and had the opportunity to introduce our product to new clients.   A highlight of our weekend was the Cochon Heritage Fire where we flew in a Russian Oscietra and offered our clients very fresh eggs! “, said Graham Gaspard President of Black River Caviar.

Le Rosey and Alumni bid farewell to an Icon– Professor Malcolm ‘Henry’ Higgins

How cool is it that alumni fly from all over the globe to bid farewell to a beloved teacher? Professor Malcolm Higgins, renamed ‘Henry’ (though we are not quite sure who by..) decided to retire after 47 years!  This was not taken lightly by his beloved students, many of whose children also had the privilege of his guidance and friendship.  Thank you Henry for bringing us together after forty years!
