Jewelry by A. Macsai

This four-day juried event is known to collectors as a must-see showcase for fine craft artisans to display and sell their innovative and original works.  These “latest” collections in contemporary art and design include glass, ceramics, sculpture, furniture, and mixed media, fashion, jewelry, and more. Many of these artists have works included in private and corporate collections all over the world.  This year brings several new aspects to the popular and well-respected Palm Beach Fine Craft Show.  For the first time, the Show will be hosted simultaneously with the renowned Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show which runs February 15th through 21st at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

Last year’s elegant Palm Beach Fine Craft Show hosted 135 of the nation’s top contemporary craft artists, offering their latest celebrated works in a comfortable, indoor setting. In keeping with its expanding audience and     beginning a new tradition, the 2017 Palm Beach Fine Craft Show will showcase more artists than ever including the finest artisans internationally as exhibitors for the first time.

Emerging Artist creates Mixed Media Art with LED Lights, bringing his Art to Life

Determined and ambitious for something new and great, Michael Andrew Jacobson aka Mr. LightsAndPaint has a unique understanding of the mechanics of artistic talent, which he creatively demonstrates through his works of art.    Using various mediums and color schemes, his artwork develops a rhythm of its own. Lights and Paint…more than just a painting and a visual show, it is artwork that comes alive.

“See without the eyes, just thoughts of an open mind”

“I love the mystical world of sacred geometrical shapes and the interconnectivity of color and light theory; which is demonstrated when my work is alive. As my LightsAndPaint creations continue to evolve so will my inspiration, and new bodies of work will awaken.” explains Michael.

Born in New York City, Michael was raised on Star Island in Miami Beach.  Michael’s mother, Roni Jacobson is a Palm Beach resident and an avid art collector as well as a supporter of the local Arts Community.  She noticed and cultivated Michael’s artistic talents from a young age.  “Michael’s teachers recognized his artistic leanings, when he was at Miami Country Day School, the Cushman School, and the University of Miami.” explains his mother.  He worked for a time at the Marlborough Galleries in New York City, and his work has been exhibited at the Lowe Art Museum in Miami.

When asked about the inspiration of color and light theory art, Michael explains, “I came up with it on accident after painting in a color changing LED lit room… When I turned on the actual lights my painting was nothing of what I had imagined; thus MrLightsAndPaint was created.”

Michael Andrew Jacobson

Art is everything and everything is art; creativity has no limits it’s infinite, unbound, and interconnected. I hope my passion grabs you when you look at my work.  It defines me as I love to hear what people think and feel when they see my work in person.” says Michael.

Mr. LightsAndPaint is active in Wynwood, and a member of Miami’s Young Artist Initiative.

His FAVORITE QUOTE:

“If you want to change the world and the world isn’t willing to change, then change a group, and if that group isn’t willing to change, then change a friend, and if that friend isn’t willing to change, then change yourself then the world is bound to follow.”  UNKNOWN

Stay tuned for an upcoming special engagement in West Palm Beach.

Tori Eversmann, author of ‘The Immortals’ will be at Meat Market Palm Beach for a book signing Tuesday, November 15th. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet her husband, First Sergeant Matt Eversmann, who was immortalized in the epic film Black Hawk Down  and inspired the lead character in her book.

A portion of proceeds raised at the event from book sales or dinner will benefit American Humane- American Humane provides a) lifesaving service dogs to veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress;b) protects America’s hard-working military dogs and recognizes their heroic contributions to our country- both on and off the battlefield.

I had the pleasure of meeting this talented author and her honorable husband on several occasions. Extremely impressed by an inexplicable bond between the two of them, I purchased a copy of The Immortals .  It was not only entertaining but enlightening to realize how little we know about the challenges faced by the family members left behind.

About the Immortals:

Eversmann’s semi-autobiographical character, Calli Coleman, abruptly lands in the role of Army wife in provincial Sackets Harbor, New York, when her husband is recalled to active military duty during the Iraq War. Calli and her young family face the adversity of transitioning to their new military life and the complicated social hierarchy that goes with it. Uprooted from their hometown, family and friends, their new life as an Army family becomes even more unsettling when Calli learns that her husband will soon be deployed to Iraq.

“New friendships sustain Calli through loneliness and the ever-present specter of widowhood. ‘The Immortals’ is an examination of marriage, friendship, war and death,” said Eversmann.

Tori Eversmann, wife of retired First Sergeant Matt Eversmann, the soldier who inspired the lead character in the book and Jerry Bruckheimer’s movie Black Hawk Down, has captivating stories of her time as an Army wife and its aftermath in the post-9-/11 world. Amid adversity, Tori worked tirelessly as a single parent, a cheerleader for her husband’s wounded men at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and as a conduit of information from the front lines during her husband’s 15-month deployment in the Iraq war, all to keep her and the other Army wives afloat. Tori received her B.A. in English/Creative Writing from Skidmore College and currently lives in West Palm Beach with her husband, daughter, two dogs and two cats.

The name Mark Spivak has been synonymous with wine, spirits, food, restaurants and culinary travel for years.  Honored for ‘excellence in wine criticism’ during his stint as wine writer for the Palm Beach Post, the award winning author and former Sommelier recently completed his first culinary thriller—  “Friend of the Devil’, published by Black Opal Books in May 2016.  Set in Palm Beach in 1990, the novel tells the story of American’s most famous chef, who sold his sold to the Devil for fame and fortune.

Journalist David Fox arrives in Palm Beach to interview the chef for a story on the restaurant’s silver jubilee. He quickly becomes involved with Chateau de la Mer’s hostess, unwittingly transforming himself into a romantic rival of Avenzano. The chef invites Fox to winter in Florida and write his authorized biography. David gradually becomes sucked into the restaurant’s vortex: shipments of cocaine coming up from the Caribbean; the Mafia connections and unexplained murder of the chef’s original partner; the chef’s ravenous ex-wives, swirling in the background like a hidden coven. As his lover plots the demise of the chef, Fox tries to sort out hallucination and reality while Avenzano treats him like a feline’s catnip-stuffed toy.

Here’s what they’re saying on Amazon:

A little Kitchen Confidential, a little Real Housewives of Palm Beach, and a little Faust.”

Sex, drugs, and an upscale version of terducken called Bedouin stuffed poussin …this fast-paced existential drama has got something for everyone.

This is not Mark’s first rodeo in the publishing world. His first book, Iconic Spirits: An Intoxicating History, tells the stories of twelve spirits that changed the world and created the cocktail culture. “It’s like sitting in a bar at closing time, listening to a good friend tell stories,” said one reviewer. “You never want it to end.”

He is also the author of Moonshine Nation; The Art of Creating Cornbread in a Bottle, hailed as the definitive book on moonshine in America. The book traces the history of corn whiskey going back to the Colonial period and the Whiskey Rebellion, and provides profiles of actual moonshiners Mark visited throughout the Appalachian South.

Having heard from a friend how spectacular Umbria was, I was eager to find out what specifically made it an unforgettable destination– UMBRIA Jazz Festival.   For 10 days and nights,  (July 8th-17th)  the sweet sound of jazz music can be heard throughout the medieval city of Perugia and the hills of Umbria come alive with the sound of music.

Since 1973, the festival has been a huge attraction every summer and hosts some of the most amazing Jazz musicians around. Artists such as Miles Davis, B.B King, and Elton John have performed.  This year, from July 8-17, the festival’s lineup will be just as amazing. The majority of performances taking place under the stars at the open-air Arena Santa Giuliana, while others happen within the gilded walls of Teatro Morlacchi,

Who’s Playing at the 2016 Umbria Jazz Festival?
In past years, the Umbria Jazz Festival has attracted the likes of musical legends such as Miles Davis, B.B. King, Dizzy Gillespie, and even Elton John. The 2016 festival is no different — if you’re planning on traveling to Umbria this summer, prepare yourself for this impressive lineup:

WHERE TO STAY..

vacation-rental-photo_Italy_HII-IPC_Villa-I-Palazzi-Casale-Torre_ipcpol02_tabletPerugia  can get very busy during the Umbria Jazz Festival and hotels, inns and villas can book up quickly.  Personally I appreciate the privilege of venturing into the historic city centers for exceptional jazz, then being able to retreat to the countryside to soak up the peace and beauty of Umbria.

Whether I’m traveling to the Caribbean or Europe, I like the space and privacy that a private villa offers. My friends at WIMCO Villas represent dozens of private villas with pools in Umbria and Tuscany – contact them at 1-800-449-1553 to ask for suggestions. They’ll set up your flights, rental cars and even private chefs and vineyard tours.

On my bucket list is a 9 bedroom villa I would like to fill with 8 friends/couples!  Only 6 miles from Perugia and less than 14 from one of my favorite historical towns,  and birthplace of St. Francis, Assisi, the villa offers horseback riding, golfing, restaurants, food shops, and even hot air balloon ride  nearby.

I continue to count on my favorite concierge — WIMCO for my vacation needs– Contact Stiles (owner/principal of WIMCO) directly for any inquiries at Stiles@wimco.com, Barbara Pierce Bpierce@wimco.com  or call 401 236 9024
