New Treasures at Via Coquina

When Cara Polites Ferro opened Via Coquina, a meticulously curated boutique featuring fine artisan treasures last year in the midst of the pandemic, it didn’t take long for Palm Beachers to discover they could experience the charm of their favorite Mediterranean port of call right here, on Worth Avenue’s Via Mizner.   Cara’s recent travels to her native Greece and Mediterranean Coast have resulted in beautiful unique additions to her eclectic, yet authentic collection of home décor, dinnerware and table linens as well as fashion, jewelry, and accessories.  Connoisseurs will recognize their favorite icons from  Capri’s Canfora and Chantecler, to Mykonos’ ThemisZ and Umbria’s B.B. for Reschio, but will also delight in discovering the lesser known treasures Cara has chosen to unveil at Via Coquina.

Maribel’s Personal Favorites

During my visit last week, I discovered my favorite tableware artisan who I knew as ThemisZ also designed clothes and accessories as exquisite as her tableware.  Who knew?   Most of us know what pottery by ThemisZ is, but I certainly didn’t know the talented genius behind the brand is a lady called Themis Zouganeli, who also has a fashion and accessory line.   Pictured on our headliner is a dress I fell in love with during my last visit to Via Coquina.  A lady with fabulous taste walked in while we were photographing my colleague Hollis for this post and bought it on the spot.  There is still one left!  LOVE LOVE this and may have to go back for it!   ThemisZ products  are exclusively represented by Via Coquina on the Island.

Another favorite which brings back memories… During trips with my parents to Capri in the 70’s, a visit to Canfora for a  new made-to-order sandal was de rigeur.  Mom would be delighted to know she didn’t have to go as far as Capri for her special treat.  Via Coquina has brought Capri to Palm Beach!

Apothecary Favorites

Upon entering the store, one can’t help taking in the delicate fresh aromas from Cara’s curated selection of soaps, fragrances and candles permeating the store.  I’ve never liked heavy perfume.  I’ve always preferred fresh clean scents.   Thankfully, last year I discovered my go-to fragrance and a favorite body wash at Via Coquina:  Rose Olivier Eau de Toilette and Ambre Maquis Body Wash by Bastide.  A few days later, I learned that this fabulous artisanal line made in Provence is the brainchild of Shirin Fekkai, Frederic‘s talented wife.  To this day, it’s all I use,  and I can’t count the amount of times I’m asked what fragrance I’m wearing.

More recently, the beautifully packaged collection of Ortigia products immediately caught my eye; I had to ask Cara about them.  Turns out Cara discovered this particular line while visiting Castello di Reschio in Umbria, and immediately decided to bring this unique and exclusive collection to Palm Beach. I smelled every candle and made the difficult choice of picking out two as birthday gifts for two ladies we were honoring at Le Bilboquet that day.  I chose  Ambra Nera and Zagara and walked away with two perfectly and tastefully packaged gifts for the birthday lunch.
