Palm Beach Trash Talk

Friends of Palm Beach Update

Friends of Palm Beach Summer Update

As the residents of Palm Beach make their way around the world on their summer travels, Friends of Palm Beach has been busy doing their thing here, keeping our beaches clean. The ocean debris knows no seasons, the Gulfstream and winds keep bringing it ashore. FPB has been removing about 85 pounds of trash a day lately. At their recent monthly, community clean up, 85 volunteers showed up and removed over 175 pounds of trash in two hours.

The Town of Palm Beach has also stepped up to help eliminate plastics in our environment.  As a Florida leader, the Town passed ordinances to ban single-use plastic bags and polystyrene containers and then added single-use plastic straws and stirrers to the mix!  A big step forward as  75% of the 123,000 pounds of ocean debris that FPB has removed since 2013 is made of plastic. Both bans take effect Dec. 12.

Changing lives one bucket at a time!

Thanks to the generous donations made by local residents in April 2019, Friends of Palm Beach’s one truck with a crew of 4 will be supplemented with an additional team and truck come the Fall! Continued support is still needed to keep their efforts going, keeping our beaches clean and changing lives one bucket at a time!
